"Killing Time" NEW MUSIC VIDEO, Single Available On All Digital Platforms!

It’s finally here! "Killing Time" the official fan music video!!

During the coronavirus pandemic, we asked fans, friends and family to send videos demonstrating how they are "killing time," while singing and dancing along to the music.

The video was edited by our drummer, Brayden Tario.

“Killing Time” was released as a single on April 10th and it is the 2nd release from our upcoming 6-song EP.

The songs inspiration traces back to our early beginnings, performing Country music in small bars and stages during the Calgary Stampede, it comes as no surprise that we would experiment with the stylistic roots genres that defined us in our youthful days. "Killing Time," is Daring Greatly's first attempt to blend 70's Rock with the influences of Country Roots. The result is a brilliantly-executed Country-Rock hybrid with mesmerizing, harmonized choruses, unified with incisive melody and a powerful underlying backbeat, Daring Greatly delivers "Killing Time" with well-honed musicianship to spare.

The song started as an acoustic riff by Patrick “Patch” Croome—one of the first truly country-sounding tunes that has surfaced for Daring Greatly. As a big fan of Country music, Liam Croome took over the reigns, inspired to write the lyrics and melody to this little “ditty. “

“I thought it would be unique to write meaningful lyrics to a Country song, as I’ve found it quite rare in today’s formulaic Country music output.” — Liam Croome (Keys, Lead Vocals)

We all grew up in Calgary, Alberta—a perfect mix of mountains, wilderness, prairies and farmland—you could say we were raised in the heartland of Canadian Country music. And as the capital of the Calgary Stampede Rodeo, Country music was a huge part of our upbringing. Country music is “in our blood.”

“Since I find it difficult to put old lyrics to a new melody, I wrote exactly what I was feeling and perceiving at the time.  That the focus on money, products, politics, social hierarchies and social media is all a huge distraction from what is actually happening around the world at a global scale, and within each of us.

It seems we numb ourselves out by being convinced that those are our priorities, so that we don’t have to think about how far from the truth and ourselves and each other we have become.

Killing Time was a phrase that kept coming out while singing “jibberish, “ and it related perfectly to my theme, “Why and how long are we going to overlook the lack of harmony we have with this earth and each other?”— Liam Croome (Keys, Lead Vocals)

“How bad is it? How much will we have to change our lifestyle to affect the earth and people around us more positively?” Self reflecting questions that present a lot of work for self-growth, which can be intimidating. Amidst these crazy times where we are locked up in our houses and spending quality time with the people we love, it’s the perfect time to have these conversations and collaborate on how we’re going to take steps to inch closer to harmony. It’s the perfect time to remember what’s important, what fulfills you. What our passions and purposes were before we gave ourselves to a system that doesn’t support our dreams. A time to “reignite” that childlike curiosity within that craves growth and truth.

The song “Killing Time” says “try to show, real love grows” because it truly does. It’s contagious to belong to something important and support and love each other throughout. The Daring Greatly Community is a perfect example of that. Together is the only way to thrive in our minds, and hopefully this song is a good inspiration to do so. It’s also a great two-stepper! What better way to connect, then to dance?!

Lyrics:

When I look outside
I’m amazed to see the things that cross my eyes
I began to write
To escape a bitter world that clouds my sky

We say we care
but we’d never dare
to change the comfort
that we’re bound to
No, we’re not blind,
it’s time to find
the higher consciousness
around you

Where we’ll go
I don’t know,
but I know that I’m afraid to see
What more it could be
If we keep killing time

Its time to shine a light
To expose the fears
that we have built inside
And ignore the lies
See the beauty that could be
if we tried

Where we’ll go
I don’t know, but I know that I’m afraid to see
What more it could be
If we keep killing time

Try to show
Real love grows

Where we’ll go
I don’t know,
but I know that I’m afraid to see
What more it could be
If we keep killing time
