Miss Violette - California Dream Folk
Miss Violette is a Southern California based duo that popped on to the scene around North County San Diego in the summer of 2017 and continue to create waves as their music and message has quickly begun spreading up and down the coast. On and off stage, Violette Larsen and Angus Wilson are committed to sharing music together as partners on the stage and in life, and the beautiful connection and love that started this artistic couple is fully felt through their music and performance in an undeniably tangible way. Violette, originally from the prairies of Montana, was raised in the sunshine of Southern California which undoubtedly had a profound influence on the writer and budding musician during the early stages of her artistic growth. A singer songwriter and multi instrumentalist, Violette’s impeccable and catchy writing style embodies elements of subtle activism and care for the planet, specifically around her love for the water and desire to bring awareness to the changes facing our oceans and wildlife. A mermaid of melody plucked straight from the 60’s with an inspiring message that spans genres and generations. Angus Wilson is a Canadian producer and singer songwriter who has made his home in California since 2016 as a co founder of the community based record label and tech platform called muSIC House. A talented multi-instrumentalist, gifted singer, composer, and influencer in the independent music space, his arrangements and compositions fit perfectly with Violettes beautiful melodies and lyrics to create a sound that is truly captivating to audiences, with guitar tones and rhythms that have been called “blissfully nostalgic”.
The release of their first EP was paired with a truly thought provoking video to the single, titled Black Snake, which depicts Violette walking through a house in which the clean water we are used to in our day to day has been replaced by oil. Inspired by the Standing Rock movement of 2016, each song on the EP is deep in its message and seems to draw listeners in further in every time you listen to it. Captivating imagery and an instantly addicting melody had the video seen over 10,000 times within 24 hours of its release and propelled the pair into the independent music market of Southern California in an immediate and undeniable way.
